Today’s topic is real love, a concept that many misunderstand. Many believe that love is often true because when you genuinely love someone, you reveal the truth to them, no matter how hard it may be.
Today, we will explore the concept of real love—an idea that many individuals struggle to comprehend. Often, people confuse infatuation or attachment with genuine love, leading to misunderstandings in relationships. Real love goes beyond mere feelings; it involves a deep understanding, respect, and vulnerability. When you truly love someone, you feel compelled to share your authentic self with them, revealing your thoughts, fears, and dreams. This transparency fosters a connection that is based on trust and mutual respect, allowing both partners to grow together. In contrast, superficial bonds may lack this level of honesty, leaving one or both individuals feeling unfulfilled. Understanding the essence of real love is essential for building meaningful and lasting relationships.
I'm using the statement above as a starting point for today’s conversation about love. I agree with almost everything in it; however, three specific words in the statement undermine its overall message, which I've highlighted. These three words ultimately nullify the statement.
When we reflect on the nature of love, it is essential to embrace a biblical perspective, as God has unequivocally stated that He embodies love itself. All manifestations of love stem from Him, originating from His initial act of love toward us. This profound declaration of love serves as a guiding light, illuminating our understanding of what love truly looks like, how it is meant to operate, and the deep significance it holds for humankind. By contemplating God's love, we gain insight into the qualities of compassion, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment that define genuine love in our lives.
When we consider Jesus as the ultimate model of love, it becomes clear that true love often requires sacrifice. To love someone genuinely means that we must be willing to speak the truth, even when that truth is difficult to hear. In today's society, however, there is a prevailing narrative that suggests being loving means accepting falsehoods as truths in order to avoid hurting someone’s feelings or creating conflict. This perspective is misleading.
In reality, this approach is not an act of love; it can actually be more harmful. It perpetuates a cycle of deception, contributing to a culture where lies are normalized and accepted. When we fail to confront falsehoods, we not only do a disservice to those who are misled but also to ourselves. This dynamic can have far-reaching consequences, leading both those who perpetuate the lies and those who passively agree with them into confusion and moral ambiguity.
By examining the state of society today, one can see the implications of these beliefs. Accepting and promoting lies can corrupt relationships and erode the foundations of truth upon which they are built. Ultimately, if we truly care about others, we must muster the courage to engage with the truth and address difficult conversations, even when it feels uncomfortable. This is the essence of love that seeks not only the well-being of individuals but also the integrity of our communities.
I understand that I've shared quite a bit already, but it's crucial to reflect on the implications of our actions and beliefs. According to Scripture, we are cautioned against endorsing or agreeing with the sins committed by others. This principle emphasizes that we bear responsibility for our own choices and may also be held accountable for the wrongdoings we tolerate or accept within our communities. It reminds us to uphold our moral standards and to be mindful of how our associations can influence our spiritual integrity.
I would like to take a moment to share some verses that pertain to this topic. I recognize that my approach is somewhat different from how I usually present my thoughts. The reason for this variation is that I experienced a sudden surge of inspiration, which compelled me to write down my reflections without delay. This has prompted me to make a commitment to myself: whenever I find myself in the grip of such intense creativity or insight in the future, I will capture those visions and thoughts in writing immediately.
So God has spoke to us on this topic and here is what He said.
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
I want to take a few moments to explain an important concept that I recently came across in a teaching. There is a key point that is often overlooked: the directive to love with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength is not merely a one-time command. Instead, it emphasizes an ongoing commitment to love in this comprehensive manner.
This directive implies that our love should encompass every aspect of our being—our emotions, our essence, our thoughts, and our physical actions. It's a call to integrate love into our daily lives, ensuring that we engage with the world and those around us wholeheartedly and consistently. This commandment reminds us that loving deeply and sincerely is a continuous journey, not just a singular event. Therefore, we are encouraged to reflect on how we can embody this love in our everyday interactions and relationships.
Let’s examine the verse: does it not mention both the mind and strength? Why do you think the word "strength" is included? It is because the decision to speak the truth requires both strength and courage. If we rely solely on the emotions of our hearts, we will likely make mistakes, as the heart can be selfish and deceitful. God tells us that our hearts are desperately wicked, and only He understands our innermost thoughts. Therefore, we must be very mindful of our feelings when making decisions.
Consequently, that is where the mind takes precedence in how we approach how we show address every matter that pertains to what is loving.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.
For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,
We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
All the verses above clearly indicate that when we make decisions based on our emotions, or "the heart," we will inevitably be led astray every time, without exception.
The key takeaway from this blog is the importance of seeking guidance from Scripture rather than solely depending on your personal feelings or opinions about a situation. In the face of challenges or conflicts that may arise in life, it’s essential to take a moment to reflect and consult biblical teachings for clarity.
Understand that we do not have the ultimate authority over love; that role belongs to God alone. If you genuinely identify as a servant of God, it is your responsibility to pursue the truth diligently and share it with those around you—your friends, family, and community. By doing so, you foster understanding, compassion, and support, helping others navigate their own struggles while being a beacon of love and truth to all.
As always, I will leave with this blog in hopes that it has enlightened you in a way that leads you close to God.
Shalom & peace
God bless.
